If you are currently in the habit of exercising and physically challenging yourself on a regular basis, you are most certainly on the right path towards improving your health and overall quality of life. Working out is necessary to maintain functionality at virtually every point in our lives. Fitness Tracking 101.

As you grow in your fitness journey, there is an almost certainty that you expect to see progress. Almost none of us would commit to doing something challenging for an extended period of time if we felt like we were getting nowhere! Ironically, many people do this very thing when it comes to fitness.

Sure, working out is great. However, heading into the gym and performing the same exercise while using the same amount of resistance or completing a leisurely jog with no concept of time becomes rather redundant.

While the aforementioned routine will most likely stall your progress, even if you are making improvements here and there, how will you ever actually know without tracking your workouts?

If you want to truly maximize your progression and satisfaction from working out, you need to be keeping track of the journey. Remember, if you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there!

In this article, we are going to discuss a few of the easiest and most convenient ways to keep track of your fitness.

Keeping A Physical Journal

Bringing a journal into the gym is by far the most tried and true method for logging your workouts. Using a journal requires no software or Internet connection and is not hard to carry around the gym. This type of fitness tracking allows you to keep a live record of your workouts in real-time.

Using this method provides the space to record each exercise, the number of sets and reps, the amount of weight lifted, and the perceived difficulty right at your disposal.

Because this method is still very popular, there are quite a few options regarding gym journals. If you would rather keep things simple and purchase a blank notebook, these cheap items will get the job done. However, there are also journals made specifically for fitness tracking with pre-formatted columns and boxes to easily input your information.

Fitness Apps

As you are well aware, there is an app for everything. Fortunately for the modern gym junkie, fitness falls into the “everything” category. Searching for this type of software on the app store of your smartphone yields an array of useful options to quickly and seamlessly log your workout information.

While some of these applications come at a small price, a large number of them are completely free.
The most obvious benefit of using an app to track your fitness progress is accessibility and simplicity. You can literally be ready to start logging each workout within five minutes of downloading this type of software.

Chances are that your smartphone is in your pocket or nearby radius every time you workout. Why not use what is already in your possession to track your fitness?

Online Fitness Communities

One of the coolest ways to track your fitness is through any of the online fitness communities that offer the ability to record your workout progress and share them with like-minded people all over the world. Fitness is inherently competitive; therefore having this platform available can provide a large amount of motivation for the driven individual.

Though not as convenient as the other methods we have discussed, online fitness communities offer much more in the way of competition and support from a large peer group. What better way to inspire yourself than to gauge your progress with not only your own but thousands of other workout warriors?
